In San Francisco We have an independent Bike "Builder" Company called "Mission Bicycle Company"
The Frames are 'Ousourced" But the seem pretty sturdy, I mean it's steel for god's sake. They make up for that by supporting the Bay Area bike community, cycling apparel designers as well as using Local Paint guru UBE (workshop check Coming Soon). These guys are super friendly and have a pretty decent selection of parts and build everything in the shop, including wheels.
