Rider Profile: Fish 'n' Chips Aka Dylan Hurst
While I big up the fast young kids, I can't forget about the young guys killing the tarck bike game in LA
I love this kid. There isn't much more to say, if you know Dylan, then you know he's pretty rad.
Good style on FGFS tip. Smooth lines and bike control, someone needs to film this kid more.
Fish 'n' Chips
What do you ride?
- At the moment I ride a 2011 NS Analog, but plan to get a bigger frame soon.
How long have you been riding/ what started you?
- I picked up biking pretty easy as a young kid, but never really fell in love with it as I did skateboarding which I did until I was 13. I remember my dad started telling me about these cool, simplistic bikes called fixed gears that he had heard about, I really wanted to get one. That was in summer 2008, I started saving up money for my first fixed gear but didn't have the complete bike until a week after new years, 2009.
Do you wear a helmet and why or why not?
- I don't, I should, I will. eventually.
Favorite Shop? Why?
- My favorite shop is also my sponsor LABreakless. Since I have been going there they have done nothing but try their hardiest to get me on a bike. Its also the closest bike shop too me, so its a convenient hang out during the day.
Clip or clipless? Why?
- I rode/broke cages for a year then finally switched to FRS (holdfast, burro, reload) straps when they became available.
Ride with headphones/ music?
- If I have headphones that aint broken, they will be in my ears. I bump all different types of stuff, a lot of hip hop, trip hop, alternative, folk, electronic. Really depends what im in the mood for.
Sponsors or teams/ gangs/ clubs you are a part of?
- Currently I am sponsored by LAB, although I would like to work on getting a frame/strap sponsor.
Fav. Race(s)?
- The only race I ever participated in was the Wolf Pack All City race, it beat the shit out of me.
Fav. place to ride or route(s) in LA?
- I like riding all over LA, but I generally stay on the westside because I cant comfortably ride my bike anymore, Its too small for me so a long ride kills my knees/back. I love riding new cities too!, riding in London last summer was incredible. I just love exploring the streets.
Fav. person(s) to ride with?
- Nobody in particular, just people that love to ride.
Dope Chill spot?
- The Grind coffee shop next to LAB, there back patio is where it is at!
Why LA?
- My dads work moved us here in 2001 from London, I didn't really have a choice.
What do you do for work?
- I am currently attending Independent studies so I can finish up highschool. In my free time I have been working at a Local preschool near my house and a Music studio in Venice.
What else do you do/ projects/ hobbies?
- I make music, beatbox, rhyme, play guitar, and sing. I create, draw, paint, sleep and eat.
Dream Bike?
- I have a couple builds that I have been dreaming about, I eventually want to own a road, touring, 24"mtn, BMX, and freak bike.
Best/ worst about riding in LA?
- Its flat, but spread out.
Any LA secrets/ tips you want to give out?
- Cars are more afraid then you should be of them, make your self noticeable, and hold your ground/line.
Shout outs?
LABrats, LDN, KeoCurry, BeaverBeavs, Anna, Dave, TOLA, PROLLY, all bike enthusiasts.
