Fyxation BMX and Track Grips

These look awesome.... I really dig the colors, and if you're like me and love matching small details on your whip, then these are for you. Bewm, the diamond tire tread matches the diamond pattern on the grips.... Joe has tested these tire before, (see issue 8 of cog) and I know he's getting ready to write a review on the Fyxation Session tire, to reallly give it some justice in a review.

Our good friend Miki Ishikawa is working with UNICEF for the 2nd year in producing Tap With A Beat. Please join us this Friday at this special benefit concert. We are sponsoring the event and will have prizes for attendees. See ya there!

@Missionworkshop Vandal Bag Review

So I recently purchased my Mission Workshop "Vandal" bag, with the DELUXE waist belt, and not only am I satisfied, but I have a near death experience counteracted by the bag. Yes, thats right friends, this bag actually SAVED my life as well as helping me carry books, folders, and computer for my daily 32 miles of commuting.

So here's the deal, on my way back from school last thursday when an Inattentive young driver hit me and I was thrown off my bike. From this point, I am not exactly sure what happened, as I blacked out, but from the information given to me by the driver and the doctor at the ER what happened was something along these lines:

I was going east bound on santa monica, when a west bound driver decides to make a left turn, and not yield to oncoming traffic, long story short, I hit my head, cracking my LAS helmet in half and landing directly on my back. Not only was my back saved, and in fine condition for a 'fairly' high speed collision, but my computer, witch was in the biggest pocket of the bag, and all of the contents inside were completely unharmed.

This bag is totally awesome, aside from the huge amount of extra space, compacted in such a small bag, it looks and feels great while riding.

Very impressed with this bag and only have three suggestions for Mission Workshop to improve on.

1. there is no good spot for a u lock other that in the actual bag. i.e. an exterior u lock holder would be great.
2. if you are wearing a helmet with the bag, it is pretty difficult to lift your head up completely when in a low position (although this is to be expected with any roll top or large bag)
3. Weight. It is a bit heavy and if you can make it lighter without compromising the integrity that would be great!

- sincerely yours .crash_bandicoot.

CARHARTT x NEW ERA

This reminds of growing up in Alaska, visiting Alaska, or having friends come down....
Everyone is in Carhartt. Which is an amazing outdoor/ workwear clothing brand. I rocked the shit out some Carhartt, growing up and want to get back into it. I would like to start with this hat, but the Carhartt Streetwear brand is only available in UK, EU or Japan... Sad. It's time for it to come back to the US. Oh Well..... I guess, I have just stick with the workwear brand, (which is far superior in my eyes.....)

Throne of bone

Since this my 666 post, I thought it would be fitting to do a write up on my homies black metal band in Seattle.
Throne of bone!!! But Seattle weekly did one this morning.... so I thought I would share that one with you.
What it doesn't tell you, is that the guys are fucking awesome, and some of the best friends a guy could have.
Plus they ride bikes like no other, and are heavily in to bike polo. The lead singer Michael Freiburger, is one the most amazing people on the planet. Those that know him, will agree with me when I say he is unforgettable.... in a good way. I have the pleasure to call him my brother and we share a bond. (due to the fact his bday is the day before mine, my Gemini twin)
I wish nothing but success for this band and if you're ever in Seattle, please go to one of their shows, epic.
Hopefully sometime soon they'll be hitting the road and coming to fucking destroy your city!!!

Debate....

There's a lot debate going on in the fixed gear blog 'o' sphere today (or in the streets). Go on any number of big name blogs to see what the talk is all about. I wanted to throw my two cents in after seeing this on Milano Fixed. I love tricks and have friends who rock at them, but this speaks about what stays true to me and track bikes... Keep Tarcking or keep going fast, just as long as you ride, that's all that really matters!

I want this. Now. March 18th in stores or online.....

I really don't need to say more then that....

Fargo Street Hill Climb- March 14, 2010, 9:00 AM.

Holy crap. How many times in one day can you climb the steepest street in L.A.? Well, thats what the LA Wheelmen want to know.
This Sunday at 9am, Fargo Street hill climb challenge. It's only one block long, but Fargo Street, with its 32% grade, equals the steepest street incline in Los Angeles. Climb, descend, climb, descend, until your legs can't take it anymore...
A little trivia: In 2008, Steve Gilmore set the men's record of 101 ascents, which took him 9 hours. GODDAMN thats alot of climbing!

Here's photo's from last year from Dan Wyman

Riders Way double straps

So, about two months ago I reviewed the Livery double straps, and it was a bit premature. I should have rode them for a lil longer before writing a review. While I really liked them and they did hold up under normal ridin use (which I recommend them for) they didn't hold up under race conditions. I raced for three weekends in a row with the Livery straps, and switched them onto a different set of pedals. On third race, in the front pack, bombing a hill, went to speed check and one side snapped, then went to skid, and the other side snapped.

Pretty dangerous for that to happen during race time, and a little hairy. Afterwards, I spoke to the guys at Livery about the breakage, and they had said that were getting reports of the same thing happening, under real stressful conditions, and were getting the design flaw changed. Just a few days later I ran into my homie Kevin at StrykerLA and told him what had happened, at which point he asked me to test out (and said I would love these) his Riders Way double straps.

So.....

Save the Tarck bike!! Umm... I mean Track bike....

Kyle, you out did yourself with this one... It really speaks to me. I don't do tricks, and I love going fast. That why I throw races, and race as much as possible. I have a lot homies who trick and are fucking sick at it, so I have a lot of love for that part of tarck culture.
But sometimes we need to be reminded where this came from! The TRACK!!! Go fast, turn left!!!

(I'm sure they're adding shit still) Hard to believe, this used to be overgrown, bum infested, more then a little dangerous at night, small bike path, that would cut you through Cap. Bicycle Kitchen 5 year Anniversary Bike ride and potluck

So, the Bicycle Kitchen is having it's 5 year anniversary, this year. (5 years of being at its current location on Helitrope and Melrose, otherwise known as the bike district) I love the bike kitchen, not because of my family ties to it, but because of what it stands for. Community. Something that is really lacking in todays society. The kitchen for me is hub. I can go there and see friends, family, get advice on bike issues, or find out where the next race is and/or party. It's the best. Without it, we in LA probably wouldn't have the bike district, one the greatest places in LA. I mean, it has it all. Pure Luck for food and beer, Scoops for ice cream, O20 for the lulz and homies (plus bike shit), Shane (the mayor) and just seeing everyone you come through at any given time... all because of the kitchen. (most of these places are owned by ex cooks from the bike kitchen)
In the next few months, there will be some events taking place to celebrate this milestone (parties, fundraisers, races, rides etc..)
Keep you eyes peeled for these and more. If you're on the bike block, stop by and wish the kitchen a happy Bday, let em know that you support em.

Happy Bday Bicycle Kitchen!!!

Here's some deets on what is going on in the next few months
